What is the WNBA CBA & Why It Matters.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is the contract between WNBA players and the league that defines everything from player pay and benefits to travel conditions, free agency, and protections for players’ health and safety.

The current CBA, negotiated in 2020 by the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA), set historic new standards: higher salaries, full salary maternity leave, improved travel conditions, and commitments to player marketing. But the fight for equity is far from over. With every new season, fans, players, and advocates alike are watching closely to ensure promises are upheld and progress continues.

Why Fans Should Care

The CBA isn’t just paperwork—it shapes the future of the game we love.

When players fight for better pay and safer working conditions, they’re not only securing their rights; they’re making women’s basketball stronger, more sustainable, and more inspiring for the next generation. As fans, our voices matter. When we rise up together, we amplify the message: fair treatment for players makes the league better for everyone.
